Communication Competencies

We defined a set of communication skills competencies through extensive review of the literature, survey of the 3 schools faculty and student bodies, input from experts and national accreditation boards. These competencies outline the essential skills required of all physicians. The competencies are organized into 3 domains.

Domain 1-Commmunication with the Patient
Domain 2-Communication about the Patient
Domain 3-Communication about Medicine and Science

Click on the Domain to review the components of each.

Domain 1 includes the skills required to conduct an effective medical interview. These skills are outlined in the Macy Model of Effective Doctor-Patient Communication.
